On 14/10/2020 our former member Daniel Landes published the article „Machine translation and the state of the translation industry“ (PDF).
“The real problem is the economic model that, even before the arrival of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine translation (MT), was geared towards devaluing the work done and exploiting the individual service providers.”
In 2021 our European umbrella organisation AVTE (AudioVisual Translators Europe) published an extensive machine translation manifesto.
On February 9, 2021, during the European Commission's Translating Europe Workshop in Croatia, Max Deryagin (Subtle - The Subtitlers' Association, UK), Daniel Landes (AVÜ) and Miroslav Pošta (JTP - Jednota tlumočníků a překladatelů / The Union of Translators and Interpreters, CZ) discussed the usefulness and the limitations of machine translation in the audiovisual sector.
